Author Guidelines

Panjab University Research Journal (Science) is published annually. The journal accepts original research papers or short notes and expository review articles in the field of various science subjects. The journal is open to all scientists engaged in original research in any discipline of science including Engineering and Information Technology. All manuscripts will be reviewed by two referees.

Manuscripts - The manuscripts should be typewritten (double spaced) with ample margins on one side of quarto bond paper (30 cm x 23 cm). Three complete copies of the manuscript along with a computer floppy/CD in Microsoft Word conforming to the journal's format is to be submitted. Page 1 should contain only title of manuscript, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), a short running title (abbreviated from the title) not exceeding 40 characters, name and complete mailing address of the person to whom correspondence should be addressed. Page 2 should contain an abstract not exceeding 150 words. The abstract should contain no illustration or reference to the figures, tables, or authors. The abstract should be followed by 3-4 key words. The contents of manuscripts should be described under Headings, Introduction, Results and Discussions. Acknowledgements should be inserted at the end of the text before References.

Short communication: A short communication should be a record of completed short investigation giving details of new methods or findings. It should not exceed 4 to 5 typed pages with an Abstract followed by Key words. Body of the text should not have any separate title, like Abstract, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion except the Acknowledgements and References.

References: References in the text should conform to the following style:-
Adherence of E. coli. to intestinal mucosal surface...pathogenesis (Beachey, 1981).

Illustrations: Three sets of figures (preferably black and white), mounted on thick white sheet, must be submitted in camera-ready form. All illustrations should be lettered with stencil using Indian ink. The illustrations should preferably be in the form of text-figures. All figures whether photographs or drawing, must be numbered in single series (Fig. 1, 2, 3.etc.). The figures should be arranged and numbered in the order in which they are referred to in the text. The figures or photographs (plates) submitted for publication must be large enough to withstand some reduction. The ratio of length & width of the full figure plate must necessarily be in proportion to the page size of the journal i.e. 23 cm x 18 cm. Figures must carry magnification bars. Legends to figures should be typed on a separate sheet of paper to be inserted after References. Abbreviations used for the figures should be given in an alphabetical order after the legends.

Tables: Tables 1, 2, 3 should be single-spaced on separate page and numbered. Each table must bear a short descriptive heading.

Proofs: Page proof will be sent to corresponding author. Authors will be charged in the event of excessive alterations in the proofs.

Reprints : Ten reprints of each paper will be provided gratis. Additional copies may be ordered while returning the proofs. The cost of the extra reprints will have to be borne by the author.

Manuscripts and Correspondence should be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, Research Journal (Science).

Submission Preparation Checklist

  1. The manuscript is typewritten and double-spaced, with ample margins, on one side of quarto bond paper (30 cm × 23 cm).
  2. Three complete copies of the manuscript are included, along with a CD/soft copy in Microsoft Word conforming to the journal's format.
  3. Page 1 contains only the title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), a short running title (no more than 40 characters), and the corresponding author's name and complete mailing address.
  4. Page 2 contains an abstract of no more than 150 words (with no illustrations or references to figures, tables, or authors), followed by 3–4 keywords.
  5. The text is organised under the headings Introduction, Results and Discussion, with Acknowledgements placed at the end before References.
  6. References follow the journal's prescribed style and are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the article.
  7. Figures are camera-ready, numbered in a single series, carry magnification bars, and are proportioned to the journal page size (23 cm × 18 cm); figure legends are typed on a separate sheet.
  8. Tables are single-spaced, each on a separate page, numbered, and given a short descriptive heading.
  9. For a short communication, the manuscript does not exceed 4–5 typed pages and follows the short-communication format (Abstract and Keywords, with no internal section titles except Acknowledgements and References).
  10. The manuscript and all correspondence are addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, Research Journal (Science).
